Meet Julio Viejo

1.Tell us a bit about yourself

Hello my name is Julio Viejo, I’m Spanish but I’ve lived in Luxembourg all my life, I lived 3 years in the US as well, and I’m in my first year of Architecture.

2.Why UNAV?

Well I originally applied to the UK, and I was interested in universities over there, but then my sister recommended me to come visit the UNAV and so I checked out the architecture program and I really liked it so that’s why I came here.

3.What were your expectations when coming and where they fulfilled?

Having classes where I could get the attention from the teacher and the teacher would teach in a more personal way rather than in a broad way. From the creative point of view I expected a lot of drawing, a lot of creativity and exciting work, and it’s what I am getting right now.

4.What do you wish to have known before coming?

One of the things I would like to have known was that the teachers are so laid back and the fact that you can just go talk to them whenever you want and ask them any questions. This is something you get here that other universities don’t offer.

5.What has been your biggest impact since arriving?

One of the things that got me right away was the architecture of the whole campus and also being in architecture they have explained us everything and so it is even more impacting. And yeah it’s really a beautiful sight and truly genius.

6.What was your major setback when applying?

The applying system that they offer you in the internet is kind of hefty, but if you contact them through telephone or email it is really easy.

7.What are three essential tips you would give newcomers?

The 3 tips I would give a newcomer would be:

  1. Be confident of yourself. Know that you can make it.

  2. Make good use of teachers and know that they are there for you.

  3. Be organized. Know how to manage your time!

8. What are some outside sources that have helped you in your classes?

The outside sources that have helped me are mainly students from older years, 4th and 5th year students that have guided me with questions that I have. They really just help you through the career itself and teach how to organize well so get the most out of the architecture.

9. What are some expectations the career had such as the amount of time it consumes, the projects or other things?

I think it is going to be time consuming and I won’t have a lot of time to spend on other things. However if you know how to organize yourself you should be able to go out, have fun and live your life.
